You Can’t Buy Self-Esteem

June 27, 2008

I was surprised to hear recently that a friend of mine is seriously considering plastic surgery. I was even more surprised to hear that it was her husband's suggestion. Previously, I'd always thought of her as a strong, successful woman, but clearly there are some self-esteem issues if she's so willing to try to become the perfect “trophy wife.”

Wake up, girls! If there's one thing I know for sure, it's that you can't buy self-esteem. True self-worth comes from within. Not from a surgical procedure, a designer boutique, or anything else that money can buy. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Our society is too image-obsessed. When will women learn to stop looking to the media for how they should look? They should listen to Dr. Emma and GET REAL.

So you can’t buy self-esteem … yet you are selling a self-help book? Interesting advice, “doctor.”
